GENERAL:
-Azalea belongs to the Rhododendron family, which has 500 species. Blooming throughout the winter until mid-spring. This one plant came from Japan and China, and it is widely believed that it is almost impossible to keep all the buds until is blooming, and the one whose plant blooms the following year is considered incredibly lucky. A symbol of this is blooming is the first love and fiery temperament.
MAINTENANCE AND CARE:
-Azaleas can be obtained either at the beginning of flowering or in full bloom. In case if plant not in full bloom it should be kept near the window in the room as far as possible from the source of heat. Then, when the buds open, it can be transferred to a room where it is heated, but it must not be exposed to direct sunlight. At this time, development begins plants therefore, it is necessary to water with a solution of mineral and organic plant food. Azaleas bright places are suitable, but protected from strong sunlight. Azaleas are suited to a bright, fresh, cool place that is not in direct sunlight, near a window, and a temperature of 13-18 degrees. If it is in a warm room with dry air, it dries quickly, discards leaves and buds. It should be protected from drafts and large differences in temperature. As for watering, it is best to mist the leaves daily and water twice a week. The water should have as little lime as possible, so it is best if it is rainwater or boiled water. During the flowering period, water every day.
PROPAGATION AND TRANSPLANTATION:
-Every 2-3 years or when the roots stick out of the pot. It is best to transplant in the spring. Propagation is done by scarring cuttings. In the spring, semi-woody twigs are taken and stuck in coniferous soil (it is best to have drainage at the bottom of the pot), they are covered with glass and stored at a temperature of 20 degrees, during this period, water moderately. The scarred saplings are transplanted into small pots at the end of summer, and the following spring they are transplanted with pruning and crown formation. The third transplant is before winter, when the strongest examples can bloom.
FOOD:
-Feeding is done after flowering until August, use fertilizer for rhododendrons and remove the old ones regularly flowers.
COMMON PROBLEMS AND DISEASES:
- When watering with a tap, there is a possibility that the leaves will turn yellow due to the fact that they are not resistant to scale. Then we have flowering that quickly stops, and the cause of this is that the plant is in a warm room (you just need to transfer it to a cooler place). If the flowers are drooping, this is a sign of alarm and you should drain the excess water from the tray or decorative pot.
Kada se na listovima uoče prosvetljene zone, a na naličiju paučina, Azaleju treba isprskati „akaricidom“.
