IN GENERAL:
–Anthurium is also known as flamingo flower. The genus includes about 1000 species and is tropical flower and it comes from the rainforests of South and Central America, more precisely from Mexico, Argentina and the Caribbean. One of the interesting features of Anthurium according to Feng Shui is that it can save a person from depression. It calms the mind and affects good mood. Anthurium also attracts money to the house, but only on the condition that honest, good and decent people live in that house.
MAINTENANCE:
-Maintaining Anthurium in the house implies a temperature ranging between 21-30 degrees. This one plant it cannot withstand a temperature lower than 15 degrees. As we mentioned above, it is clear that it is a tropical plant and it needs high air humidity even in cases where it is grown as potted flowers. Anthurium is suitable for a place with a lot of sunlight, but it must not be exposed to direct sunlight, so partial shade or indirect light is ideal. As for watering, it should be done early in the morning when the soil is completely dry, in summer it is done for about 3 days. And during the winter and cold period, it is watered for 10-12 days. It is important to know that it is best to use water that has been left at room temperature, and it can also be boiled. Our advice is to wash completely once a week plant, whether it will be a lukewarm stream in the shower or a soft cloth soaked in water is up to you to decide. When temperatures are high, it is best to mist the leaves. Due to the need for humidity, another important thing is to keep the pot during the winter on a mat / tray that will contain water and which should be topped up when it evaporates.
FOOD:
- Fertilizing is best done once, and at most twice a month, when the plant is growing intensively. Only use fertilizer without carbonates! Our advice is to get big and beautiful flowers from spring to autumn plant you feed with fertilizer.
TRANSPLANTING:
- Young plants should be transplanted every year in the spring, while older plants are transplanted every 2-3 years. At the bottom of the pot, it is preferable to put a drainage layer (pebbles, styrofoam, gravel). While growing plant so the root grows with it, the part of the root that is above ground is preferably covered with moss.
PROPAGATION:
-Propagation is done either by seeds in the spring or by dividing the young plants which grow at the foot of a large.
If you want to over seed, do it as follows. Anthurium seeds are sown in the same soil in which the large plant is grown, until the seedling sprouts, the pot is kept in partial shade, and after it sprouts, it is transferred to fresh air. After that, remove the young plants with all the roots and transplant them into a separate pot.
If you still decide on the option of transplanting by dividing young plants, it is done after flowering. When dividing an older plant, make sure that each part has a root system and leaves. The divided plants are planted in shallower but wider containers, with a drainage layer at the bottom and placed in a warm room where the temperature will not be lower than 20 degrees. Planted plants should be watered in the morning and fertilized so that they bloom the same year.
ANTHURIUM DISEASES AND TIPS:
- One of the diseases is an attack of aphids or fungi. In that case, it is best to use insecticide and fungicide.
You should know that the appearance of yellow and dried leaves occurs due to an excess or lack of water, or if the plant is drafty or cold. If this happens, move the plant to another place.
