Amaryllis

IN GENERAL:

- Amaralis is bulbous plant which is originally from Central and South America. It belongs to the genus Hippeastrum, which includes about 800 species. This kind is blooming it can be indoor or garden (the tuber must be placed indoors before winter). Amaryllis is one of the most beautiful and sought-after plants.

The symbol of Amaryllis is pride and determination.

PLANTING AND MAINTENANCE:

- This one plant should be planted in a pot at the beginning of February. It is very important that the bulb is 2-3 cm away from the edges of the pot. Gravel goes to the bottom, and then it is filled with soil (preferably a mixture of perlite and humus). Half of the plant must be underground, and immediately after planting it should be watered with a small amount of water. In order for the root to start developing, put the saskia in a darker place, and after developing, move it somewhere where the temperature is around 20 degrees. After 10 days, the first shoots about 10 cm in length appear. For the first two weeks after planting, the plant is not watered, and after emergence, it needs to be watered every other day. After all that, the pot should be moved where there is more light, and the ideal temperature is between 15-18 degrees. The moment a flower bud appears, you should start feeding with liquid fertilizer for flowers. Plant should not be watered with a large amount of water in order to prevent rotting of the bulb. By mid-August, the addition of water is reduced, and at the beginning of autumn it is completely stopped. When the leaves are completely yellow, it is necessary to cut them 7 cm above the tuber and leave them in a dark place for eight weeks. In December, the top layer of soil is removed, 2-3 cm of substrate is added and watered abundantly until flowering.

The important thing is to know that after flowering you should cut off the stem, that its height is approximately 10 cm. Until spring, it is dormant in a warmer place, and where of course there is enough light. When the month of May comes, we can move her to garden. It is very important that they grow as many leaves as possible by the summer and that the bulbs themselves grow as much as possible so that they are ready for the next flowering. Amaryllis blooms from December to March. And if the crew in February can is blooming in the spring in April and May. If flowers grown indoors, the flowers last between 2-3 weeks.

PROPAGATION:

-It is made by dividing young bulbs from old ones or by seed.

If the method is seed propagation, sometimes we can get new varieties. The seeds develop in pods (20-60) and when ripe they burst. That is why they should be sown as soon as possible. Pour the substrate into the pots, compact it well and water. After that, put the seeds and cover with a thin layer of soil. Keep the substrate moist, but when watering, make sure that the seeds do not come to the surface. After 20 days, young plants sprout.

In case you want to reproduce by dividing the young bulbs, then you have to leave the young bulbs as long as possible next to the old ones from which they grew, to make them stronger. First, they are planted in small pots, so that the upper opening is 7×7 cm, then they are transplanted into large ones.

DISEASES OF THIS FLOWER AND TIPS:

- You should know that Amaryllis refuses to flowerand in cases of low light, possible root disease, blunting of fungi....

If you notice that the leaves are turning yellow, it is probably due to parasites or excessive moisture in the soil. This is best dealt with by withholding watering to allow the leaves to dry, and when this happens the leaves need to be cut. This is the best way to get rid of the pest. If Amaralis is affected by a fungal infection, the plant will have red spots all over it and stripes on the stems.
