Pruning plants

Pruning plants is both an art and a craft. All woody plants, whether deciduous or coniferous, need by pruning. If a person does not do it for them, they will find a way to do it themselves by discarding the branches, but when this happens, the ends of the branches remain, the bark splits, and therefore the plants become targets for the development of pathogenic organisms as well as for the settlement of plant pests.

Purpose pruning plants is correct, natural, formation of habits, direction of further development, as well as maintenance of health and increase of reproduction. Correctly pruning plants it must please both the plant (physiologically) and the eye of the beholder (visually).
When we say form, we mean the habit or appearance of the plant. It should be emphasized that the genetically predetermined shape of the crown cannot be changed to a large extent without the plant looking pleasant and decent visually. If the plants are in a row of trees, they need to be pruned
as tree row seedlings, while plants in hedges should be cut more often and thus maintain special shapes and forms, such as bonsai, topiaries, etc.

Encouraging the plant to bloom more abundantly, removing wild shoots from grafted plants and shoots from the stump are goals for improving the decorativeness of the plant. Water shoots or "waters" are vertical branches that appear in the interior of the crown of the plant, they have a very
a small role in transpiration, while on the other hand they greatly threaten the appearance of the plant's habitus.

Ornamental shrubs give the garden shape and structure. The most common selection of the species we plant is based on its characteristics plants, be it fragrant and decorative flowers, while other types are chosen for their attractive and decorative leaves, their color and texture, as well as their shape and dimensions. We form with the right choice and combination green area in which colors, shapes and textures will change all year round.
By pruning it is necessary to remove all dead branches, injured, infected, attacked by insects, mechanically damaged and branches that interfere with the growth of others, branches that collide and are damaged. With this, we act preventively on plant, but we also remove the infected parts of the plant.

Basic principles of pruning:

- to avoid pruning plants in the rain and wet weather, because in this way the possibility of colonization of pathogenic organisms on the cuts is avoided;

- every cut, if possible, should be protected with a coating agent (special paste or pencil wax);

- the pruning tool must be extremely sharp in order not to injure the plant and in this way the wound heals faster;

- a good knowledge of both the physiology and the habitus of the plant being pruned is necessary because most plants do not have the same condition in terms of regeneration, they do not have the same density of the crown, and for this reason it is necessary to know exactly which branch can be pruned;

- if it is carried out pruning phytopathologically or entomologically threatened trees, it is necessary to collect all infected pruned parts and, if possible, burn them, and disinfect the used tools.
